Natalie Zarb - Ginkgo Financial Ltd

Natalie Zarb Head of Operations

Your job in a nutshell
I’m the go-to person. The problem solver. If someone has an issue, they come to me and I try to get an answer.

Tell me about your first paid job?
Having swum since a young age, I progressed to competitions at the age of 12. So it was a natural progression to become a lifeguard and swim teacher at the age of 16. Being able to mix what I loved along with making money was ideal!

What led you to where you are now?
Back in 2015, I left my job as Compensation and Benefits Manager at Ralph Lauren to become a stay-at-home mum: I didn’t feel I could juggle the position, travel and quality time with the family. Within days I came across an ad on a local Facebook page for a flexible, family-friendly, part-time role with a local financial adviser. I applied and the rest is history. I’m really proud of successfully transferring my skills into a career in financial advice. I really enjoy solving a puzzle or getting to the bottom of a problem, so this role suits me perfectly!

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
When I left uni, I stayed on living in halls as a warden to save money. I’d also put my student loan in an ISA. Within nine months I’d saved enough to put a deposit on my first flat.

What’s the most frivolous thing you’ve ever bought?
Probably a trip to Lapland for the family. The cost for the 2-night trip was the same as 7 nights in a 5* hotel in Dubai. But it was worth it. The only problem is the kids want to go back!

What’s your retirement dream?
I love nothing more than getting away with my husband and two kids for a weekend in the campervan with no plan – just seeing where the road takes us. I hope that retirement will be the ultimate adventure…

What’s the best thing about working at Ginkgo?
Working at Ginkgo has been a revelation. I had never really had the opportunity to work flexibly in previous roles. I have learnt a lot from Daren and he has built a great team over the last 5.5 years.
