Your job in a nutshell
It’s my job to spread the word about Ginkgo to existing clients and potential clients and our professional contacts. I especially love working on local initiatives like Grow with Ginkgo, that let us put something back into our community.
Tell me about your first paid job?
At school, I had a Saturday job in a local Spar mini market. I did everything from stack shelves, order stock, manage the garden centre and work behind the sweet counter. I was paid buttons but it was a real education!
What led you to where you are now?
I’ve covered many branches of marketing over my long career. I’ve been an award-winning business journalist, a director of a PR firm, a partner in a magazine publishing business, and I’ve run my own successful copywriting and writer-training business. Bringing all those skills together to take our family business to the next level is really exciting!
What’s the most frivolous thing you’ve ever bought?
I’m a thrifty Northerner by birth, so I rarely make frivolous purchases. But the inflatable hot tub I bought my husband, Daren, for Christmas has been a lockdown-lifesaver!
What’s your retirement dream?
I dream of having a second home by the sea with a big garden and my own pottery studio. I’d throw big parties for friends and family and we’d eat home-grown wonky veg off home-made wonky cups and plates. Bliss!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Be patient. The best things in life are worth waiting for.
What’s the best thing about working at Ginkgo?
The atmosphere at Ginkgo is really special. We’re almost all local and love this part of South East London. Lots of us are working mums who’ve left behind pressurised careers to get a better work/life balance. Some of the team have been with us since we were running the business from our spare room. It’s more like family than a business.
